What really hit a nerve deep within me was hearing Höss reading Hansel & Gretel as a bedtime story to his children, especially that part in which Gretel pushes the witch into the oven. Or the conference with a map in the background showing the real number of concentration camps in europe.

This is the best analysis of the film i've seen so far !

I don't really get it, someone please explain. Yeah they all got what they wanted in the moment (Tashi got to see good tennis, Art got motivation to really play, and Pat got to play with his best friend again.), but that was only for the moment. Once the match is over, then what? They're so messy, it's not like it's going to happen again. Art's heart isnt in tennis anymore, Pat is a bum, and Tashi never really liked either of them truly, her true love is tennis. They were just a way she can still be connected to it. Each person is jealous of each other in different ways and that makes it not work. Unless the point is for it to be momentary? For them to connect with each other the way they always wanted, even if it's just for one last time?

Can anyone please explain or recall for me what Höss towards the end of the film to his wife on the phone about the people in the ball hall? He sais something like he would want to gas those people but the ceilings are to high... did I understood that correctly?

The devil comes to collect his debt after 7 years which is how many years passes I believe since the grove thing. His wife got lung cancer but never smoked, I think that Jack never connected the two that his wife was the debt until the end.

This flick had me watery-eyed at the end, real talk; Now that's quite the feat to pull off. Feeling all the same emotions again the next day just from viewing this video. I have to herald this one as a masterpiece of American Tragedy, even though it's embarrassing to admit it worked so well on me!

Tbh, I skipped through a lot of the courtroom scenes, because that was my least favorite part of the movie. I loved the story of Kya’s life in the Marsh. I think you make a good point and yes killings were still happening at A1 but they were random and Spur of the moment while Birkrnau was systemized and large-scale. Blame Sophie's Choice for my think the Villla was at Birkenau as their is a scene where a group of Poles arrive by train and every implication is that it us Birkenau and the movie then pans to the villa where Mengele and Hoess are talking about there powers to kill people. That was historically incorrect and clouded my judgement where the villa was.

Oh my. This is the first analysis that i think is 100% bang on and captures exactly what Guadagnino was going for. The one thing i differ from you slightlly, is i think Art and Patrick's relationship as teens was indeed the more wholesome one, but it still had toxic elements. Patrick being so dominant he doesn't let Art shine on court in the doubles is one, and the late blooming Art not being aware of his own latent desire is the major second, lol. But that ties perfectly with what you said about the ending and why it's so satisfying. Brilliant work!

The changes of scenery did leave me disoriented, which, of course, was a point the writer/ director wanted to get across. One thing...what's with the chicken? It seemed to be the only meal on the menu. I'm guessing there was a purpose to that.

Although it may look like they have the healthiest romantic relationship, Patrick uses sex to dominate and intimidate Art. I think all relationships in this triangle is toxic.

The casual movie audiences seem to be hating this movie for some reason

Did Tashi ever really like them? You can see by the final shot of her yelling “COME ONNNNNNNNNNN” that pretty much is was a win-win situation, also we keep hearing one distinctive edm track get played throughout the movie, almost like when tension is building up

I wonderered if what he was singing was ambiguous.. "I'm going to heaven on the hellside"?

A lot of people paint Tashi as a master manipulator and while I think she is controlling, she also wants to see Art fight for what she loves. It is selfish, but for Tashi, tennis is her life and her drive. She can't do what she love the most and Art giving up on it almost felt like he given up on her. By fixing the game, she is denying herself of what she wants to see: a real match. I think she did love Art in her twisted way, though not as much as Patrick love Art.😅 That's why the ending felt so satisfying. It's like they all finally understand each other for the first time.

Man this has to be the best movie of 2024 hands down I've watched this movie several times over but I'm just really surprised on how many imagery that they showed involving the Grove if you know what I mean not going to say too much on that but you know so abraxas is a demon cuz that's what Santana named his second album in 1970 wow okay I'm going to do some research

i think his wife has not passed on, as christou claims that spirits continue to finish their business until end of halloween. the sacrifice has not been complete, as they have not fully let go of each other, which is why it ends with the literal sacrifice of his wife. idk just thoughts

You explain the theme, philosophy, psychology, meaning and symbolism in a simple and yet in depth way which is a lot different in a good way compared to film youtubers who seem to intentionally make things more difficult than it really is.
